Hermon Monroe Jones, 68, passed away on December 10th at his home. He was born on February 9th, 1949 in Atchison, Kansas to Hermon Jones Jr and Nina Reed. Hermon grew up in Jefferson and Douglas County. Herman joined the Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War in the Artillery division. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Herman worked in a variety of jobs throughout his life but took the most pride in owning his own business, Montyco Exteriors. At Montyco Exteriors he ensured that his customers were provided quality work at a reasonable price.
Hermon married Kathryn Walker in 1968 in Fort Devens, Massachusetts. They were happily married for 49 years. They enjoyed coin collecting, fishing, and canoeing together. Herman also was an avid chess player and was nationally ranked during the 1970s. Herman could often be seen having morning coffee on the porch enjoying nature and frequently heard cheering on or coaching the Jayhawks while watching every game on television.
Herman was preceded in death by his father Herman Jones Jr. Herman is survived by his spouse Kathryn; his daughters Sandra (Jacob) Wright, Sharon (Jim) Qandil, and Sheila Sewing; his grandchildren Rebekah, Jessica, Kristin, Justin, and Kaitlyn. Herman is also survived by 6 brothers and sisters Jerry, Judy, Richard, Nina, Ed, and Donnie.
