Norman G WycoffAugust 7, 1922 ~ March 29, 2017 (age 94)
Norman Glenn Wycoff, 94, passed away on March, 29th surrounded by family at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Norman was born August 7, 1922 in Argonia, Kansas, the son of Glenn and Mildred Pehrson Wycoff.
Norman graduated from Solomon High School in 1940 and joined the war effort as a naval aviator, where he piloted PBY aircraft from 1942 through 1946.
Norman returned to Kansas to attend the University of Kansas. He graduated in 1948 with a Bachelors in Economics. He also received a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University, New York City, in 1950.
He worked for the United States State Department from 1950 until 1977. He was a world traveler, having visited or worked in over 116 countries in his life. After retiring, he again returned to Lawrence to spend the rest of his life.
Norman was an avid jogger, having run thousands of miles over a period of 50 years. He loved taking long road trips with his three sons. He always had the TV news on or was reading one of the numerous newspapers he subscribed to.
Norman is survived by his two sisters “Ellie” Davis and Marilyn Stoppel. Also surviving are his three sons, Lars (wife Karen), Marc and Patric. Norman has two grandsons Nathan and Keenan. He will be greatly missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at 10:45 Friday, April 7th at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be sent to the American Cancer Society.
